Advancing Arbitration and ADR in Pakistan

It was a privilege to host representatives from the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Islamabad and to showcase Pakistan’s evolving ADR ecosystem, while connecting them with key stakeholders and champions of dispute resolution in the country.

Access to Justice & Rule of Law

As part of the visit, high-level engagements were held with members of the judiciary, including:

  • Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Supreme Court of Pakistan
  • Justice Jawad Hassan, Lahore High Court
  • Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Islamabad High Court

These discussions focused on current judicial practices, the integration of ADR mechanisms, and strengthening access to justice through modern dispute resolution frameworks.

Global Outreach of Arbitration & ADR

Engagements with key government stakeholders included:

  • Raja Naeem Akbar, Federal Law Secretary of Pakistan
  • Zulfiqar Ali, Director General, Prime Minister’s Office Board of Investment

Discussions centred on the ongoing amendments to arbitration laws, the role of ICC in capacity building and thought leadership, and the importance of arbitration as a tool to enhance investor confidence and facilitate cross-border investment.

Capacity Building & Training

A productive working session was held with:

  • Hayat Ali Shah, Director General, Federal Judicial Academy

The session, attended by district judges and judicial officers, focused on strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing judicial understanding of ADR mechanisms, and promoting best practices in dispute resolution.

Engagement with the Legal & Business Community

The visit also included a series of meetings with law firms, experts, and cross-border businesses, reinforcing the importance of understanding client needs and market expectations.
