Islamabad, 18 August 2024. In a landmark moment for Pakistan’s legal and arbitration landscape, the International Centre for Appropriate Dispute Resolution and Prevention (ICADRP) hosted a distinguished gala dinner to mark the first-ever National Rounds of the 32nd Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Pakistan.
Held in Islamabad, the event brought together participation from 20 universities across the country, reflecting a growing national commitment to advocacy, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). The gala served not only as a celebration of academic excellence but also as a significant step in positioning Pakistan within the global arbitration community.
Distinguished Addresses
The event was graced by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb of the Islamabad High Court as the Chief Guest, who delivered a compelling keynote address emphasising the urgent need to integrate ADR into legal education. His remarks underscored the potential for Pakistan to emerge as a future leader in international arbitration.
Judge Charles N. Brower, Patron-in-Chief of ICADRP, also addressed the gathering, commending the participants, particularly the student mooters, as the future leaders of arbitration in Pakistan. He highlighted ICADRP’s collaborations with leading global institutions, including the International Law Institute and the Weinstein International Foundation, which continue to strengthen ADR capacity in the region.

The event featured engaging panel discussions with distinguished legal experts, including representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) and Advocate Generals from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh. These discussions explored the evolving landscape of arbitration in Pakistan and the opportunities for institutional growth.
An executive address by Ms. Raquel M. Sloan, Attorney Advisor at CLDP, provided a comprehensive overview of key insights and outlined practical steps for advancing ADR frameworks in Pakistan.

The evening concluded with a networking dinner that brought together legal professionals, academics, and students, fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration on the future of dispute resolution in Pakistan.
